Shortly after his UFC Fight Night 110 TKO loss to Mark Hunt, heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis surprised the MMA community by announcing that he may have fought his last fight in MMA. On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, however, Lewis confirmed that he will probably fight again – and soon. “We’re just hoping that we don’t have to get surgery, because I thought about it a little bit, and it’s not going to be my last fight,” Lewis said. “I’m going to try to get back in there as soon as I can, and we’ll find out Wednesday, see what’s going on and if it’s not too serious. Hopefully I can get back in there before the end of the year.”

Over the weekend, streaking heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis stepped onto the canvas with veritable MMA legend Mark Hunt. Lewis sought to extend his win-streak to a whopping seven-straight, and maybe, earn himself a shot at UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic. Regrettably for Lewis and his fans, Hunt proved to be too much. As Lewis faded in the third and fourth rounds, Hunt turned up the offense, cracking the exhausted American repeatedly until the referee had no choice but to step in.

Though Lewis was able to land some big punches in the second frame, this fight was almost all Hunt, who battered his exhausted foe to an impressive, fourth-round TKO victory. In a few short weeks, in the main event of the UFC’s upcoming trip to New Zealand, streaking heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis will face the biggest test of his career in MMA legend Mark Hunt. Should he pass this test, Lewis is likely to line himself up for a heavyweight number one contender fight, perhaps with fellow contender Francis Ngannou. Given their concurrent rises into contendership, much has been made of a possible Lewis vs. Ngannou fight. Apparently, this is something Lewis is interested in, though he thinks Ngannou is overhyped.

On June 11, the UFC will head to the South Pacific with UFC New Zealand. The card, which will go down inside Aukland’s Spark Arena, already has fans very excited. Much of the excitement surrounding this card can be attributed to its dynamite main event. This main event will pit brick-fisted heavyweight veteran Mark Hunt against the streaking Derrick Lewis. Now, this main event is represented in an official, promotional fight poster – and it’s a good one. While the typical UFC promotional poster simply features the card’s competitors, side-by-side, this one shows Lewis and Hunt squaring off with crazed expressions on their faces.

When Mark Hunt next steps into the Octagon, he’s going to look a little different than we’re used to. The fan favorite UFC heavyweight has plastered his chest with a massive – and may we say beautifully done – tattoo. This tattoo, which was done by Chris Mata’afa of Monarch Tattoo Studio in Australia, depicts a trio of skulls in samurai armor. Hunt shared a photo of this new piece to his official Instagram page. On Monday’s edition of the MMA Hour, Lewis discussed the options for his next fight with host Ariel Helwani. During this segment, he addressed widespread interest in a fight with fellow contender Francis Ngannou, who recently dazzled with a veritable execution of former champ Andrei Arlovski. Lewis explained that if this is the fight he’s offered, he’ll take it, because he knows it’s one the fans want.

UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis looks to have reached a new level of stardom following his win over Travis Browne at UFC Fight Night 105 in Halifax, Canada, which took place this past weekend. “The Black Beast” threw some additional verbal shots at Browne after knocking him out in the second round of their main event fight, bringing up Browne’s alleged history of domestic violence. Lewis took it a step even further and gave a shout out to Browne’s current girlfriend, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. Lewis did not stop at the post-fight Octagon interview. He kept up with his shots at Browne in the post-fight interview with the press and has posted quite a few social media posts aimed directly at Browne and Rousey.

In the wake of the fight, Lewis has been looking for a fight with heavyweight veteran Mark Hunt, who is currently gearing up for his UFC 209 scrap with Alistair Overeem this upcoming weekend. Last Sunday, in the main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Halifax, Derrick Lewis weathered an early bit of adversity to club Travis Browne into unconsciousness with a right hand and a series of ground strikes. In the wake of this thunderous win, Lewis criticized Browne for the allegations of domestic abuse that linger in his past, and made comments about Browne’s current girlfriend, UFC superstar Ronda Rousey. “Where Ronda Rousey’s fine ass at?” he said.
