Derrick Lewis weighs in on Edmond Tarverdyan ahead of Travis Browne fight
bjpenndotcom - February 15, 2017
With just days to go until Derrick Lewis and Travis Browne step into the Octagon in the main event of ‘UFC Fight Night: Halifax’, talks regarding how Travis Browne will look under Edmond Tarverdyan have continued to surface. Prior to Browne’s UFC 181 scrap with Brendan Schaub in 2014, Browne began training under Edmond Tarverdyan at the Glendale Fighting Club, where former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey trained. Browne praised Tarverdyan following the win, and has remained at GFC since. Since then, Browne has gone just 1-3 his sole win being a 3rd round TKO win over Matt Mitrione in early 2016, where Mitrione suffered once of the most disturbing eye injuries in the history of MMA. Now, with Browne training at Black House MMA part time, fight fans are wondering if Browne will look different without training exclusively under Tarverdyan.
Travis Browne: callout from Derrick Lewis made the fight personal
Tom Taylor - December 20, 2016
Earlier this month, the UFC touched down in Albany New York with UFC Fight Night 102. In the main event, rising heavyweight Derrick Lewis took on Dagestani prospect Shamil Abdurakhimov. Though Lewis didn’t exactly dazzle in this fight, he was ultimately able to put Abdurakhimov away with a fourth-round TKO. In the wake of this win, Lewis was incredibly critical of his own performance, telling Octagon-side commentator Jon Anik that it was one of the “terriblest” fights of his career. When asked by Anik who he would like to fight next, Lewis explained that he had plans to call out Travis Browne or Mark Hunt, but wasn’t sure if this was the right move given his less-than-stellar performance.

These fights will see the division’s two best prospects take big steps up in competition against well established names. The first of these heavyweight showdowns will occur on January 28, at UFC on Fox 23, when French-Cameroonian destroyer Francis Ngannou gets the biggest test of his career in former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. The second will occur just weeks later, when massive Texan Derrick Lewis faces what could be his biggest test in fringe contender Travis Browne. Lewis and Browne will duke it out on February 11, at UFC 208 in Brooklyn.
