The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 73 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Mackenzie Dern vs. Angela Hill. Tonight’s women’s strawweight main event proved to be a coming out party for Mackenzie Dern. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace looked fantastic both on her feet and while on the ground and seemingly cruised to a unanimous decision victory over ‘Overkill’. While many expected Angela Hill would have the edge in the striking department, that proved to be far from the case as Dern out struck her the entire twenty-five minutes. Following her statement win, Mackenzie proceeded to callout Rose Namajunas.

Diego Ferreira out of UFC 277 fight against Drakkar Klose

Diego Ferreira will no longer be fighting in front of his adopted home of Dallas, Texas. Multiple sources informed BJPENN.com that Ferreira has been forced to pull out of his UFC 277 fight against Drakkar Klose due to an injury. The UFC is actively searching for an opponent to replace Ferreira and face Klose, the sources said, but it is uncertain if one will be found on two weeks’ notice.

Gregor Gillespie booked against Diego Ferreira for UFC Fight Night event

An intriguing lightweight bout between Gregor Gillespie and Diego Ferreira has been added to the UFC Fight Night card on May 8. Gillespie was supposed to fight Brad Riddell last month, but the fight was scrapped on fight day when Riddell was pulled from the card due to COVID-19 protocols. Instead of re-booking that fight, the UFC matchmakers have gone and given Gillespie a new matchup against Ferreira in what is a battle between top-15 ranked lightweight. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report the matchup, which will take place on the May 8 card headlined by TJ Dillashaw and Cory Sandhagen. The card will likely take place in Las Vegas.

Ferreira and Dariush met on the main card of the action-packed UFC Vegas 18 card. After three thrilling rounds, Dariush was named the victor by split decision, which is of course not the result Ferreira was after.

UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush apologized to UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby for his post-fight tirade following his win at UFC Vegas 18. Dariush defeated Diego Ferreira via a controversial split decision in a tremendous back-and-forth bout that won each man 50k each for “Fight of the Night.” It was a fantastic fight that saw both men show off their striking and grappling skills, but Dariush appeared to have the advantage and managed to sneak out with the split decision nod.

An intriguing rematch between top-15 lightweights Beneil Dariush and Diego Ferreira has been added to the UFC Super Bowl card. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first reported the rematch between Ferreira and Dariush will take place on the UFC Fight Night card on February 6. The main event of the evening is expected to be a five-round headliner between heavyweight contenders Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov. Ferreira vs. Dariush will likely be on the main card.

UFC lightweight contender Diego Ferreira says he is open to filling in for Islam Makhachev against Rafael dos Anjos on this weekend’s card. Makhachev was finally able to secure a top-flight opponent in the form of the former UFC lightweight champion dos Anjos, but unfortunately, the Russian was forced to withdraw from the bout, leaving dos Anjos without an opponent. With the card just five days away, the UFC matchmakers are going to have to work fast to secure a replacement opponent. There just aren’t many options available for dos Anjos, given the super short notice here.
