Diego Sanchez wants Josh Thomson, Nate Diaz, or Gilbert Melendez at UFC 164 in Milwaukee
With his first win in his return to Lightweight under his belt, TUF 1 winner Diego Sanchez (24-5 MMA, 13-5 UFC) is calling out three top-10 fighters for his next fight.
“The Dream” made his return to lightweight at UFC On Fuel TV 8 in March, this after going 2-2 while in the UFC’s welterweight division. Sanchez squared off with former Pride champion Takanori Gomi that night and ended up getting the nod from two of the three judges on route to a split decision victory.
On Tuesday’s UFC Tonight, Ariel Helwani revealed that Diego has his eyes on three top 10 fighters. If he gets his wish, he will face Josh Thomson at UFC 164 in August. Thomson made his UFC return less than a month ago at UFC On Fox 7, where he scored a TKO victory over former #1 contender Nate Diaz.
Aware that a fight with Thomson is an unlikely match, Diego has two other opponents in mind, Gilbert Melendez or Nate Diaz. A fight with Nate Diaz would be interesting, as there is already some history between the two. Sanchez owns a decision win over Nate’s brother Nick from years ago and recentley stated that he would fight Nate at either lightweight or welterweight.
UFC 164 is scheduled for August 31 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
