Since Dominick Cruz convincingly defeated Urijah Faber in the co-main event of UFC 199 back in June, he has been on a collision course with Faber’s protege, Cody Garbrandt.

Garbrandt has been on a tear of the UFC’s bantamweight division, going 5-0 in the UFC, finishing all but one of his opponents via KO/TKO. Following his KO win over Thomas Almeida back in May, Garbrandt began calling for a title fight with Cruz.

The pair traded numerous verbal blows through interviews, which continued as Garbrandt was booked to fight Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 202 last month. During the UFC 202 fight week, Garbrandt and Cruz were involved in a rather heated backstage confrontation that resulted in security separating the two men.

When Garbrandt entered the Octagon on August 20th to fight Mizugaki, Cruz was in attendance, watching closely from the Fox Sports 1 booth. ‘No Love’ went out and finished Mizugaki in under a minute before using his post-fight Octagon interview to call for a fight with Cruz.

The pair verbally agreed to a bout in the days following the event, however there has been no word on the UFC looking to book the fight. Until now.

TalkMMA is reporting that the UFC is looking to book Cruz vs. Garbrandt at UFC 207 on December 30th, the UFC’s New Years Eve card, which takes place on Friday, rather than on Saturday, which is indeed New Years Eve.
