Payton Talbott expresses interest in fighting Dominick Cruz following UFC Vegas 89

UFC bantamweight Payton Talbott has expressed an interest in taking on Dominick Cruz in his next fight.

Last weekend, Payton Talbott really announced himself to the rest of the bantamweight division. He went head to head with Cameron Saaiman and, in more ways than one, he outclassed him. It was a really strong performance from the unbeaten sensation and now, he’s ready to try and make a splash in the top 15.

Of course, with things being so stacked at 135 pounds, he needs to be smart about who he decides to go after.

In his post-fight interview on Saturday night, Talbott called out the legend that is Dominick Cruz.

Talbott calls his shot

“I don’t really know too many people in my division, but maybe Dominick Cruz,” Talbott said at the UFC on ESPN 53 post-fight press conference when asked about whom he’d like to face next.

“I’m exponentially passing up the rankings, and I’m going to try to get into the top 15 hopefully pretty soon,” Talbott said.

“I just need to keep having performances like that, do my dirty work and just keep beating dogs like that,” Talbott said. “Now I need to put my time in and solidify myself against game opponents, and I’m more than willing to do that.”

This would obviously be a massive step up for Talbott. At the same time, a lot of fans are pretty high on him right now – and it feels like the same goes for the UFC.
