Donald Cerrone agrees to new opponent for UFC 205
With the UFC’s inaugural event at the Madison Square Garden, UFC 205, rapidly approaching on November 12th, fight fans have been anxiously awaiting announcements regarding fights which will take place on the card.
The first bout announced by the UFC for the historic card was Robbie Lawler vs. Donald Cerrone. While MMA fans were quick to celebrate the announcement, it was revealed that Lawler had backed out of the fight for fear of returning to action too quickly following his UFC 201 KO loss to Tyron Woodley.
With ‘Cowboy’ left opponent-less for the massive event, fight fans have been anxiously awaiting word on whether the promotion would pull Cerrone from the event, or find him a replacement opponent.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN broke news Wednesday afternoon that Cerrone and #5 welterweight Kelvin Gastelum have agreed to a fight at UFC 205.

Cerrone has been on a tear of the welterweight division since making the jump up in weight earlier this year. Since then he has gone 3-0 at 170 pounds, finishing all 3 of his opponents as he jumped to #7 on the UFC’s official welterweight rankings.
Gastelum, who is ranked at #6 on the UFC’s official rankings, is coming off arguably the biggest win of his professional career at UFC 200, where he defeated former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks via unanimous decision. Prior to that, Gastelum was defeated by Neil Magny via split decision.
