UFC Austin loses co-main event between Donald Cerrone and Joe Lauzon

Tonight’s UFC Austin fight card just lost it’s co-main event as Donald Cerrone will no longer be fighting Joe Lauzon. The veteran lightweight standouts were expected to collide this evening in a fan-friendly affair. However, MMA Journalist Ariel Helwani recently took to Twitter where he revealed that the Donald Cerrone vs Joe Lauzon fight has been called off.

Last month, ‘Lionheart’ revealed on the Believe You Me podcast a run-in his family had with ‘Cowboy’ at UFC 235. While Smith was fighting in the main event against Jon Jones, his family was reportedly dealing with other issues.

Joe Lauzon is glad he and Donald Cerrone will finally be sharing the Octagon together. Lauzon and Cerrone were supposed to fight at UFC 274 on May 7, but on the morning of the event, ‘Cowboy’ had to pull out as he fell ill. Immediately, the promotion began looking to get the fight rebooked and the two will now meet at UFC Austin. For Lauzon, he says he still got paid for the canceled fight.

UFC lightweights Joe Lauzon and Donald Cerrone will hopefully square off after all. The two bonus kings have been scheduled to clash on a UFC Fight Night next month. This is the second time that the two men have been booked. Lauzon and Cerrone were previously scheduled to square off at UFC 274 last Saturday. Hours before the fight, the bout was canceled due to Cowboy having food poisoning.

Unfortunately for Cerrone, he contracted food poisoning the night before his lightweight fight and had to withdraw from the card.
