UFC Denver Results: Donald Cerrone submits Mike Perry (VIDEO)
A highly anticipated welterweight fight between former teammates Donald Cerrone and Mike Perry served as the co-main event of UFC Denver.
Donald Cerrone (33-11 MMA) was last seen in action at June’s UFC Fight Night event in Singapore, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to surging welterweight contender Leon Edwards. Prior to the setback, “Cowboy” was coming off a spectacular first-round finish of Hawaiian Yancy Medeiros.
As for “Platinum”, Mike Perry was most recently seen in action at July’s UFC 226 event, where he earned a split-decision victory over Paul Felder.
Round one of tonight’s UFC Denver co-main event begins and Cerrone and Perry meet in the center of the cage. “Platinum” fires off a low kick and then swings and misses with a big punch. The fighters clinch and Perry lands a knee. Cerrone seems relaxed and fires off a knee of his own. The fighters break and Perry circles out. He leaps in with a left jab but “Cowboy” avoids and fires off a low kick. Cerrone with a nice jab now. He shoots for a takedown but it is not there. Perry leaps in with an uppercut that misses. Donald Cerrone shoots in for a takedown but Mike Perry denies the shot. The fighters separate and Perry lands a low kick. Cerrone replies with a pair of jabs. He lands a nice kick to the body. Mike Perry gets the clinch and scores a takedown. “Platinum” moves to side control but Donald Cerrone scrambles and winds up reversing the position. Perry gives up his back and Cerrone looks to move in for the finish. Donald looks for an armbar. Perry pulls out but Cerrone then throws up a triangle. Mike Perry scrambles but Donald Cerrone is able to lock in another armbar. This submission hold is tight. Perry taps and it is all over! WOW! DONALD CERRONE ladies and gentlemen.
