I always used to talk about not chasing it cause I didn’t care…but now I can see the light at the end of the path, right? It’s time. Time to go back to 155 where I belong and sh*t, right now I’m f*ckin’ ’78, 80 pounds, 10 pounds off easy.
’55 sucks, man it’s a hard cut. Wish there was a ’65 class but yeah, this is my last fight at ’70 and I just signed a new f*ckin’ deal and [I’m] going to ’55 and getting that belt.”
Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has been teasing a return to his longtime home of 155-pounds for a while now, but this time he seems a bit more serious.
With the mentioning of knowing that his career is coming to an end and that a new contract was signed, Cerrone clearly has some new goals rather than his usual ‘just fight’ attitude. Which, of course, will surely always be there.
Cerrone made his welterweight debut in February 2016 after losing his first career UFC title fight in a rematch to Rafael Dos Anjos. In Cerrone’s divisional debut, he submitted Alex Oliveira with a first-round triangle submission that was the first of four spectacular finishes in a row for Cowboy at 170-pounds.
Unfortunately, in his last five outings luck hasn’t been entirely on his side as Cerrone has gone 1-4 with two of the losses coming by way of TKO.
This Saturday night at UFC Denver Cerrone will look to leave the division on a high note with a big win in his hometown over ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry in the evening’s co-main event.
In the co-main event of UFC 314, a pivotal five-round lightweight bout takes place as Michael Chandler takes on Paddy Pimblett. Heading into the fight, Chandler is a +124 underdog, while the Brit is a -160 favorite on FanDuel.
