Drew Dober issues statement following loss to Renato Moicano at UFC Vegas 85
Drew Dober has issued a statement after suffering a decision loss to Renato Moicano at tonight’s UFC Vegas 85 event.
Dober (27-13 MMA) was returning to action this evening for the first time since scoring a first-round TKO victory over Ricky Glenn at October’s UFC Vegas 80 event. That finish had put the Denver native back into the win column, as he had previously suffered a TKO loss to Matt Frevola at UFC 288.
Meanwhile, Renato Moicano (18-5-1 MMA) was returning to the Octagon for the first time since competing at UFC 281 in November of 2022, where he earned a submission win over Brad Riddell. The 34-year-old Brazilian had gone 3-1 over his previous four Octagon appearances, with his lone loss in that time coming to former champion Rafael Dos Anjos by unanimous decision.
Tonight’s ‘Dober vs. Moicano’ fight proved to be the thrilling back and forth war that most fans were expecting. Renato had a strong opening round, but Drew Dober was able to storm back with some big shots in round two. After getting off to a strong start in the opening minute of the final round, the American was ultimately taken back down to the canvas by his Brazilian opponent, who proceeded to dominate the rest of the round from top position.

Shortly following the conclusion of tonight’s fight card, Dober took to ‘X’ where he issued the following statement to his fans while congratulating Moicano on the win.
Not the outcome we wanted. In a game of inches, I made mistakes, and @renato_moicano_ufc was the better man tonight. Congratulations to him and his team. I feel no shame in putting everything on the line and testing my abilities against the best in the world.
