Dustin Poirier doesn’t require hip surgery, expects to be ‘training 100 percent’ after three weeks

By Drake Riggs - October 18, 2018

After the fight canceling bad news for top UFC lightweight contender Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, he has now received some good news.

Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor

A nagging hip injury forced Poirier out of his scheduled co-main event bout at UFC 230 on November 3 in Madison Square Garden against Nate Diaz.

Today Poirier gave us an update on his injury and when we can expect to see him ready to get another fight lined up.

So here’s what’s up for everybody asking

I do not have to have surgery!! I’m going to stay in LA and get stem cell injections in my hip on Monday. From that point I will have a 3 week recovery. After that I will be able to go back to training 100%.

I would like to thank the @ufc for being patient with me and getting things done. Setting up all these appointments. Flying me out to specialists for second opinions and making this process go smoothly.

I am really looking forward to coming back pain free! #strapseason

The man known as The Diamond has been red-hot as of late having gone 8-1 (1 no contest) since returning to the lightweight division in April 2015. Among those victories has been six KO/TKOs over the likes of names such as Yancy Medeiros, Bobby Green, former World Series of Fighting champion Justin Gaethje, former UFC and WEC champion Anthony Pettis and former UFC and Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez.

Fans were highly anticipating the expected clash with Diaz so it’s quite the bummer that this fight had to end up being canceled. After all the mess that became of UFC 230, it did almost feel too good to be true.

Whether or not the UFC will attempt to remake the matchup remains to be seen. But what we have seen is that the verbal warfare has continued to spill over despite the fight now being off.
