Dustin Poirier reflects on fight with Michael Johnson
This past weekend, Dustin Poirier and Michael Johnson stepped into the Octagon in Hidalgo Texas to square off in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Hidalgo.
The fight was a pivotal one for both men. For Poirier, it was an opportunity to extend his win streak to five after making the move from featherweight to lightweight lsat year. For Johnson, it was a chance to return to the win column and snap his losing streak.
When the two collided inside the Octagon this past weekend, it was Johnson who emerged victorious, picking up a spectacular 1st round KO win over Poirier.
Following the fight, ‘The Diamond’ took to Twitter to reflect on the fight, and let his fans know that he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon:
I guess its back to the drawing board…again. Live by the sword die by the sword. I still believe I'm one of the best. Time will tell….

Following the fight, Poirier fell three spots on the UFC’s official rankings, dropping to #10 on the lightweight ladder. On the other hand, Johnson jumped up four spots, landing at #6.
So far there has been no word yet as to when both men will be returning to the Octagon, however with the state of the lightweight division being as stacked as it is, there’s certainly no shortage of potential fights for both men.
In addition, it has been reported that the UFC lightweight championship will be contested at UFC 205 in New York. While initial reports were that Conor McGregor would be fighting Edide Alvarez for the lightweight strap, UFC President Dana White has stated that it will be Khabib Nurmagomedov who fights Alvarez for the lightweight strap.
