Former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is taking issue with Joe Rogan’s commentary from UFC 299.

Dustin Poirier

UFC 299 took place last Saturday and saw Dustin Poirier (30-8 MMA) vs. Benoit Saint-Denis (13-2 MMA) in a lightweight bout. It was to be ‘The Diamond’ winning with a brutal knockout of Saint-Denis at 2:32 of round 2.

It was in the opening frame that veteran color commentator Joe Rogan suggested Poirier looked fatigued.

Dustin Poirier, in a recent appearance with Ariel Helwani on ‘The MMA Hour’, reflected on his strong performance at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida this past weekend. The match-up also awarded Poirier a $50K fight of the night bonus, tying him with Edson Barboza (24-11 MMA) for most ‘FOTN’ bonuses in UFC history.

The former interim champ went on to elaborate on his performance while noting remarks made by color commentator Joe Rogan, which he obviously disagreed with:

“I rewatched the fight last night with my wife when we got back to Louisiana. Joe Rogan said I was exhausted, said I was tired like five times. Bro, I do not get tired. I have some of the best cardio in this fight sh*t that we do. Like, I can go 25 minutes, hard, cracking the whole time. I can’t believe he said that … I felt good.”

Continuing, Dustin Poirier said (h/t MMANews):

“But I felt good. I felt like he was going to slow down, you know. That’s what I was hoping for, I thought third or fourth round is when I would really start to like, pull away and break him down. But I got him out of there in the second. I thought I was gonna have to break him down, wear him down a little bit more but I caught him in the middle of a trade when his chin was up and his body wasn’t set for that right hook. The timing of it was just perfect to whip his brain around.”

What did you think of Joe Rogan’s comments concerning Poirier looking ‘exhausted’ and ‘tired’ at UFC 299? Who would you like to see ‘The Diamond’ fight next?
