New UFC lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez roasts Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor
Eddie Alvarez made a big statement in his UFC lightweight championship performance last week, dismantling Rafael dos Anjos in the very first round.
While speaking with Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour,” Alvarez had some words for UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz who will be cashing in on another big payday when they fight at UFC 202 in August.
Alvarez stated that he is looking at the winner of that fight and would be there for their fight saying, “I’ll be there with a bullhorn for that freakshow.”
Alvarez went on to pour some disrespect towards both Diaz and McGregor. “The least best lightweights in the division, highest paid. Bullsh*t. It is. It’s true, it’s bullsh*t.”
“The guys are making dollars, the highest dollars and they’re both considered lightweights I guess making the highest dollars of all of us and you got guys like Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, myself, like real top level guys who are kind of just getting by, you know what I mean? These two guys need to be taken out viciously so we can get some of that money.”
When asked if he was rooting for one or the other in hopes of facing the winner, Alvarez said that he doesn’t really have a preference. Alvarez said that he and Diaz have a bit of history and almost fought outside of the Octagon when he faced Diaz’s teammate Gilbert Melendez in Mexico at UFC 188.
As for McGregor, Alvarez says he is good at one thing, but alluded that he isn’t well rounded enough to compete with the best in mixed martial arts. The lightweight champion also said that “The Notorious” was handed his title shot after beating mediocre competition, unlike himself.
