Last week, Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez came face to face for the first time at the UFC 205 press conference ahead of their historic fight for Alvarez’ lightweight championship in the main event of UFC 205 on November 12th. When Alvarez fielded his first question from a media member, he was meet with boos from McGregor fans, whereas the featherweight champ was given extremely loud cheers from his fans whenever he would touch the mic.

Eddie Alvarez says that he will be making “millions” for his UFC lightweight title fight against UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor at UFC 205. The historic card will feature the two UFC champions in McGregor’s attempt to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two different UFC weight class titles at the same time while Alvarez will look to take down one of the biggest names in the sport. Leading up to the announcement of the fight, there were rumors going around that there was trouble putting the fight together due to pay issues on Alvarez’s end. The UFC lightweight champion even responded directly to BJPenn.com via twitter regarding the report and stated the story of him trying to negotiate for too much money was a lie.

Earlier this month, after it was announced that Conor McGregor would be moving to lightweight to fight Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight championship in the main event of the UFC’s historic UFC 205 fight card, the pair came face to face for their first staredown at the end of the first UFC 205 press conference. While the situation was an intense one that saw UFC President Dana White have to get between the men as they pushed back & forth, Alvarez says that he has never felt as unthreatened during a staredown as he did with McGregor.

Last week, at the official press conference of UFC 205, Conor McGregor threw plenty of shade Eddie Alvarez’s way, and much of that shade concerned the amount of money Alvarez would earn for their main event showdown. “He’s very lucky to be in the position he’s in,” McGregor said of Alvarez’s pay for the bout. “He understands that. While UFC President Dana White has stated recently that if McGregor defeats Alvarez at the Madison Square Garden, he must relinquish one of the belts, McGregor revealed at the UFC 205 press conference that it would take an army for the UFC to take one of his belts away.

UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has missed out on a ‘red panty night’ after asking for more money to fight Conor McGregor. Brendan Schaub revealed on the Fighter and the Kid podcast that Alvarez apparently complained to the executives at the UFC and was met with an indignant Joe Silva before the match-maker parted ways with the promotion: “So from what I hear, Eddie Alvarez was complaining to the UFC brass that he wanted more money to fight Conor McGregor. He wanted pay-per-view points, he wanted a certain amount of money. And the UFC, you know Joe Silva’s going out, he goes, ‘You wanna do what? Oh one of the biggest fight card of all time at Madison Square Garden. First time the UFC’s ever been to New York and we’re allowing you to fight Conor McGregor as the main event but you want more money? Nah, I’ll tell you what we’re gonna do. We’re going to pull Conor off, give him a bigger fight. Then, here’s Khabib Nurmagomedov.

First, Eddie Alvarez was set to defend his newly-won 155 pound belt against featherweight champion Conor McGregor at UFC 205 in New York City. Now, it appears Alvarez will take on Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 206 in Toronto instead.

Not long ago, in the main event of UFC 202, Conor McGregor stole a majority decision from Nate Diaz, avenging an earlier loss to the same man and reestablishing himself as one of the game’s best fighters with the win. The strange thing about McGregor, however, is that he’s spent the entirety of his UFC career fighting at weight classes that do not appear to be the ideal fit for him. At featherweight, where he won the divisional title, he faced a brutal weight cut. At welterweight, where he would go 1-1 with Diaz, he was clearly undersized.
