Kamaru Usman and Emil Meek finally have a date for their welterweight scrap
Tom Taylor - December 18, 2017
For weeks and weeks, the status of Kamaru Usman and Emil Meek’s anticipated welterweight scrap has been uncertain. Originally, the fight was scheduled to occur at UFC 219, on December 30 in Las Vegas. Regrettably, it became known that Norway’s Meek was having a difficult time acquiring a US visa, which shrouded this contest in doubt. At that point, Usman claims to have been offered a replacement fight with fellow welterweight contender Colby Covington, which he claims Covington turned down. From there, Meek secured his visa in time for his visit to the US, assuring that he’d fight on Usman at UFC 219 after all, but apparently it was too little too late. The fight was removed from UFC 219, while multiple reports suggested it would likely be rescheduled for UFC 220, which goes down on January 20 in Boston.
BREAKING | Emil Meek May Have Just Saved His Fight With Kamaru Usman at UFC 219
Justin Golightly - December 1, 2017
UFC 219 feels like a cursed card. The main event was constantly up in the air, a fight between Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm was in limbo, Dominick Cruz pulled out with an injury, and Kamaru Usman is basically the hardest person to find a fight for on the roster. Finally, Emil Meek was made official as the opponent for the surging welterweight contender, but eventually even that match-up looked to be off due to Meek’s United States visa trouble. He told us that he intends on showing up at UFC 219, and it looks like he kept his word. Emil Meek has just received the visa that will allow him to fight. Great news for @emilvalhalla: he has officially received his US visa. Meek tells me he is awaiting word from the UFC as to whether his 219 fight versus @USMAN84kg is still on. Hoping to get that today. pic.twitter.com/ODlUmcYRH7
EXCLUSIVE | Emil Meek responds to Kamaru Usman's "bullsh*t" claims, will show up to fight at UFC 219
Tom Taylor - November 2, 2017
Last month, it was announced that Norway’s Emil Meek will be taking on 11th-ranked UFC welterweight Kamaru Usman at UFC 219. Shortly after this fight was announced, however, Usman began suggesting that Meek might not show up, and that the UFC was attempting to book Colby Covington as his replacement opponent. When Covington denied these claims, Usman accused him of ducking. Speaking on Wednesday’s edition of BJ Penn Radio, Meek reiterated that, despite Usman’s claims, he still has every intention of showing up to fight at UFC 219, and that he finds Usman’s ducking accusations of Covington a little strange.

BREAKING | Kamaru Usman Booked For a Big Scrap At UFC 219
Justin Golightly - October 20, 2017
With seven welterweight match-ups booked from now until the end of the year, it was curious that Kamaru Usman became the odd man out. He didn’t find it that confusing though, he actually thought he knew the answer. The fact of the matter is, Usman thinks he hasn’t got a big name opponent because those would-be challengers knew they didn’t have a shot. It’s only fitting that the only guy who rose to the occasion is a viking. That’s right, Usman has been booked to fight Emil Meek at UFC 219. Emil "Valhalla" Meek challenges Mike Perry to scrap at UFC 218, "Platinum" responds
Chris Taylor - September 23, 2017
UFC welterweight Mike Perry improved his record to 11-1 last weekend in Pittsburgh by scoring a first-round knockout victory over Alex Reyes. The win marked Perry’s second spectacular knockout in a row, as he had previously disposed of Jake Ellenberger via a viscous elbow at April’s UFC Fight Night event in Nashville.
"Valhalla" offers to fight Robbie Lawler on short notice at UFC 213
Tom Taylor - June 28, 2017
If you haven’t already heard, UFC 213 was dealt a real blow this morning, as Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone was forced out of his scheduled showdown with Robbie Lawler with an undisclosed injury. And though the UFC is reportedly considering moving this fight to UFC 214 on July 29, one eager fighter is hoping to step in for the injured Cowboy and fight Lawler on just over a week’s notice. That fighter is Norway’s Emil Meek. Nicknamed “Valhalla,” Meek made his call for the last-minute fight with Lawler on Twitter.
Ontario Athletic Commission forces UFC 206 fighter Emil Meek to shave his beard
Tom Taylor - December 9, 2016
In mixed martial arts, athletic commissions are known for their strange policies and their iron-fisted enforcement of those policies. The latest manifestation of this reputation occurred this morning, when the Ontario Athletic Commission, who will oversee UFC 206 in Toronto, forced main card fighter Emil Meek to shave his trademark beard. Failure to do so, they said, would result in his expulsion from the card. Meek took to Facebook to announce that he’d been asked to shave his beard early Friday morning. Unsurprisingly, he wasn’t pleased by this development.
