EXCLUSIVE | Alan Jouban discusses BJ Penn vs. Yair Rodriguez
UFC welterweight standout Alan Jouban (15-4 MMA) is coming off arguably the finest performance of his octagon career at last month’s UFC on FOX 22 event in Sacramento, where he handed Mike Perry (9-1 MMA) the first loss of his professional career via unanimous decision.
The victory marked Alan Jouban’s third win in a row and fifth in his past six octagon appearances.
“Brahma” recently sat down with BJPENN.com’s Chris Taylor on ‘Rapid Fire’ where he discussed the comeback of former two division UFC champion BJ Penn against Yair Rodriguez.
“You know I am really curious to see how this fight plays out. Obviously BJ is going up against a young lion in Yair Rodriguez. It is definitely not going to be an easy fight for either man. Yair is a really good striker and throws some really unique and crazy stuff, especially with his kicks.”
He continued:
“But BJ has the power to knock anyone out with one punch man. So I think if BJ can find his way inside on Yair then he could really do some damage. Obviously if Penn can get the fight to the floor with a knockdown or a takedown he should have a distinct advantage there.”
Jouban would not give a definitive prediction for tonight’s UFC Fight Night 103 event but did say that he will be cheering for “The Prodigy”.
“Obviously I am going to root for BJ in this fight. Nothing against Yair, I think he is a great up and comer, but I grew up watching BJ and would love to see him get the win.”
Alan Jouban is hoping to score a fight with former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in his next octagon appearance. You can read that here.
