EXCLUSIVE | Colby Covington says he has stories about Tyron Woodley that could “ruin his career”

By Tom Taylor - September 17, 2018

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and former interim champion Colby Covington stand out as two of the fiercest rivals in modern MMA. Though their anticipated showdown has not yet been made official, they’re expected to fight quite soon, and when they do, it’s going to be one of the biggest grudge matches in recent memory.

Colby Covington, Tyron Woodley

There was a time, of course, when Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington were actually on good terms. That was several years ago, when both trained at American Top Team.

Speaking on BJPENN.COM Radio, Colby Covington looked back on the time when he and Woodley were allies. He says Woodley even invited him out to St. Louis to help him prepare for his 2014 fight with Rory MacDonald.

“He brought me out to St. Louis to get ready for Roy McDonald a couple of years ago, give him that pressure fighting style,” he said. “He trained with me two times, and I just beat his ass so badly he didn’t want to train anymore.”

Needless to say, with stories like this lingering in the past, the UFC has plenty of material to work with when it comes time promote a fight between Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington. And apparently, Covington’s got lots more where that came from. He says he has stories about Woodley that could do serious damage to his career.

“I think there’s more than enough material to promote,” Covington said. “They can do the red side versus blue side promotion aspect. There’s so many different angles to run with it. Two former American Top Team teammates. Two guys that are managed by Dan Lambert. There’s just so many ways to go with it. There’s really not much I need to say.”

“It’s been built,” he continued. “The hooks are in. The world needs to know the way the event needs to be marketed. He’s a soft ass little liberal snowflake. I’m a fucking bad ass mother fucking Republican. He’s like Hillary Clinton in a way. He’s crooked. That’s why we call him two-faced Tyrone. You can’t trust anything he says. I’m more like Trump. I’m grabbing all these pussies, and I’m putting them in their place.”

“There’s some things,” he concluded. “I got some ace of spades in my back pocket. If that dude, if he slips up with anything, he’s… I got real dirt on him. I know some real shit. Some real storylines that would ruin his career, and ruin his life, really.”

What do you make of this beef between Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington? Who do you think will win their fight?
