Melendez: ‘Eddie Alvarez And I Are The Perfect Recipe For FOTY’

UFC lightweight and former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez is looking forward to his scrap with former Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez.

During recent media obligations to promote the fight Melendez acknowledges that it’s a fight many people have been wanting to see for a long time now, with both men being former champions in other organizations.

“At times we were debatably one and two in the world and everyone wanted to see this fight,” said Melendez,”Now are paths have finally come five or six years later and he likes to throw big punches, so do I, we’re both two guys who aren’t going to back down and high intensity. So it’s going to be a good fight. It’s one of those fan favorites, people are already talking fight of the year. I had one that was up for fight of the year not to long ago and he’s had the same thing, so it’s a perfect recipe.”

‘El Nino’ knows that Alvarez is tough and will bring it come fight night, but thinks he has something that will give him the edge, and that’s intelligence.

“I feel like I am the more intelligent fighter. We both have a lot of heart, we’re both lions out there, but I think I’m going to make the smarter decisions and I think at the end that makes a difference in some of these fights.”
