Mike Perry discusses options for his next fight: Everybody goin’ to sleep

By Russell Ess - October 3, 2017

UFC welterweight Mike Perry is steadily climbing the UFC rankings after making his debut with the promotion last year. Now, with five fights in the UFC, “Platinum” spoke with BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor about some potential fights and working his way to the top of the chain.

Taylor asked Perry if we could expect to see him back in the Octagon soon, perhaps rescheduled for a fight with Thiago Alves at UFC 218 on December 2 in Detroit. Alves, who lives and trains in Florida, was forced to pull out of his slated UFC Fight Night 116 bout with Perry due to Hurricane Irma.

“There are so many things up in the air, I can’t say who I’ll get. I’m looking past him but if they send me the contract, I’ll sign,” Perry said.

“Everybody goin’ to sleep. Don’t matter who.”

Perry stated that he wants someone ranked in the top 10 and is gunning for a “bigger name.”

Taylor asked if Carlos Condit would be one of those with a bigger name.

“He don’t want that fight,” Perry said. “I believe I’d run through Condit like RDA (Rafael dos Anjos) did Magny.”

Taylor then threw out Kamaru Usman’s name as a potential opponent and Perry broke it down to business.

“Of course, but that’s not how business works,” said Perry. “Me and Usman were on the same card (UFC Fight Night 116) so whatever fans I gained, he gained too. So, to put us on against each other without building our fanbases further wouldn’t give that fight the wave it deserves.”

Taylor then brought up Emil Meek’s name and Perry was short and to the point about a fight with the Norwegian.

“Forget that guy,” said Perry.
