Former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson suffered a controversial decision loss to Darren Till this past May in Liverpool. The loss did not sit well with “Wonderboy”, especially due to the fact that Darren Till missed weight by a large margin (3.5 pounds) for their marquee fight.

On November 10, on the main card of UFC Denver, “Platinum” Mike Perry will collide with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a welterweight matchup that has fight fans drooling. Interestingly, the pair were briefly linked to a fight back in July. At the time, Perry was booked for a UFC 226 fight with Yancy Medeiros. When Medeiros withdrew from the fight with an injury, Cowboy was briefly discussed as a replacement opponent.

On September 8, in the main event of UFC 228, UFC welterweight champion Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley will attempt to defend his title against surging British contender Darren “The Gorilla” Till. Earlier this month, UFC 228 welterweight title challenger Darren Till came under fire when he suggested that he didn’t care about anything other than winning the title from champ Tyron Woodley — not even his pregnant girlfriend or his young daughter. “I’ve got a girlfriend who’s nearly seven months pregnant,” Till said. “I don’t really care. I’ve got a daughter in Brazil right now who I haven’t seen for one year. I don’t really care. I just care about legacy and greatness. That’s what I’m in this for.”

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will attempt his next title defense in the main event of UFC 228 on September 8, when he takes on undefeated British striker Darren Till. Originally, of course, it was expected that Woodley’s next title defense would pit him against current interim welterweight champion Colby Covington. Yet the UFC wanted to book the fight for UFC 228, and when Covington wasn’t able to accept that date, the promotion gave the shot to Till. Colby Covington believes that was a serious error on the UFC’s part. By his estimation, UFC 228 is doomed to be a pay-per-view disaster.

The expectation was this accomplishment would set him up for a title unifying showdown with undisputed champion Tyron Woodley. But unfortunately for Covington, this isn’t the way things happened. Instead, the next welterweight title shot will go to England’s Darren Till, who will battle Woodley in the main event of UFC 228 on September 8. Once this fight is underway, the UFC will quietly strip Covington of his interim title — though he certainly has other ideas.

Undefeated light heavyweight prospect Alonzo Menifield (7-0) did not let his opportunity on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series go to waste. Instead, he laid waste to his opponent Dashawn Boatwright in a mere eight seconds, earning himself a UFC contract in the process. Having earned this UFC contract, Alonzo Menifield is now eagerly awaiting his promotional debut. While nothing is set in stone just yet, he’s hoping to make this debut at UFC 229 on October 6th — perhaps against somebody like Scotland’s Paul Craig or Moldova’s Ion Cutelaba.

While this matchup has generated a bit of controversy among fans, mainly due to Leben’s recent health problems, it’s one that has Baroni very excited. In Leben, Phil Baroni sees a kindred spirit. He considers himself and Leben to be the last of a dying breed; remnants of a vanishing warrior class that thrived not just on ability but on extreme toughness and strength of will.
