‘Rowdy’ Bec Rawlings Talks Upcoming Fight And Strawweight Division-EXCLUSIVE
UFC’s ‘Rowdy’ Bec Rawlings joined host Anton Skoro on the latest episode of BJPENN.COM Radio.
Rawlings, a member on the TUF 20, is preparing to fight Seo Hee Ham at UFC Fight Night 65 in Australia, Rawlings’ home country.
Rawlings detailed how she came to get on the card.
“I heard rumors that the UFC were coming to Australia so I got straight on to Sean Shelby, I’m like ‘please let me fight in Australia’, I haven’t fought there in like three years I think, so I was begging to get on the card. He said I’ll see what I can do. So to be able to fight in Australia–in my home country–since it’s been so long, it’s going to be nice having all of the fans, yeah it’s going to be exciting.”
As far as added pressure Rawlings says she won’t feel any because she never feels any pressure going into a fight.
“Not at all, when I fight I don’t feel any pressure. It’s just me out there in my element. So no matter where it is or any show. When I fought in the UFC I hear a lot of people talk about they get the big stage fright and I just walked out and was like ‘this feels like Invicta, this feels like Nitro’, like it doesn’t feel any different to me. No matter where it is or what promotion it is there’s still just one person that’s there across the cage from me trying to punch my face off.”
“I’m really excited about this fight, I think it’s a great matchup and also this is going to be the best camp that I’ve had, ever.”
Of course Skoro had to get Rawlings’ thoughts on her divisions champion being overthrown. The strawweight said although Carla Esparza is her friend and she thought she was going to beat Joanna Jędrzejczyk, she ultimately thinks that the new champ will be good for the division.
“I really think Joanna has lit a fire under the strawweight division and has really got everybody excited about it. I love Carla and she’s a good friend of mine, but I think Joanna being the champ has done and will do great things for the division.”
