You can add ‘Wonderboy’ to the long list of fighters in Mike Perry’s crosshairs
“Platinum” Mike Perry is one of the fastest rising contenders in the UFC welterweight division. Since joining the UFC fold in August of 2016, he has knocked out Hyun Gyu Lim, Danny Roberts, Jake Ellenberger, and most recently, Alex Reyes. Though these knockout wins were interspersed by a decision loss to Alan Jouban, they have still been enough to elevate Perry to the number-15 spot in the UFC welterweight rankings. And now that he’s in the top-15, he’s putting all of his peers on notice.
One of the latest fighters to find himself in Perry’s crosshairs is two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, who battles Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217 on November 4.
“I want to fight,” Perry said on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio. “I want to fight a great kickboxer too. I’ll fight ‘Wonderboy’ too. I mean, he’s a fantastic kickboxer, but I think I would overwhelm him.”
Thompson, of course, is not the only UFC welterweight to have been targeted by Perry.
Shortly after his KO of Reyes, Perry called out former UFC welterweight king Robbie Lawler – though this potential fight is looking unlikely.
“I’ll give ya a name right now cause I know you’re gonna ask,” Perry told UFC commentator Jon Anik. “Everybody wanna see me beat up Robbie Lawler.”
Perry also discussed Colby Covington and Demian Maia on the last episode of BJ Penn Radio.
“Fuck him,” Perry said of Covington. “Get past Demian Maia first. I already told my manager, ‘yo, if he gets past Demian Maia, what’s up, tell him to turn around. Let’s fight in December.’ I don’t know if that’s too quick of a turnaround but if you want to get this money, let’s go.”
‘”If one of them pulls out, I’ll stay ready,” he added. “If some shit happens in the next month, dog, I’ll take some shit. I’m going to stay ready to fight. Short notice, like I said. I’d be ready for a three-day notice, 170. Call me. I’ll fuck Colby Covington up.”
Who do you want to see Mike Perry fight next. Perhaps this guy?
