However, Werdum will need a new opponent now that Rothwell has suffered a knee injury and has been forced to withdraw from the bout, according to sources confirmed by MMA Junkie on Thursday.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum (20-6-1 MMA) will return to the octagon this September in Cleveland when he squares off with Ben Rothwell (36-10 MMA) on the main card of UFC 203. Werdum was just in action at UFC 198, where he lost his heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic in the evening’s main event. Prior to the setback, Werdum had put together an impressive six-fight win streak, capturing the UFC’s heavyweight title in the process.

UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum is never one to shy away from taunting or trolling his opponents. Ahead of his UFC 198 fight against Stipe Miocic on May 14th, Werdum took some time to taunt Cain Velasquez and Travis Browne, who are fighting at UFC 200 on July 9th. Ironically, Werdum has previously defeated both men, and they are likely fighting for the #1 contender spot at heavyweight. Werdum defeated Velasquez for the heavyweight championship back at UFC 188 via submission to unify the UFC heavyweight championship. In addition, he defeated Travis Browne back in 2014 at UFC on FOX 11.
