Fedor Emelianenko wants rematch with Fabricio Werdum
Back in 2009, MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko made his Strikeforce debut as he knocked out Brett Rogers in the 2nd round of their headlining fight. In just his second Strikeforce fight, Emelianenko was submitted by Jiu-Jitsu phenom Fabricio Werdum. To this day, the loss remains the only submission loss on Emelianenko’s record.
Now, following a successful return to MMA on New Years Eve, Emelianenko is looking to avenge his loss to Werdum, who is now the UFC heavyweight champion.
‘The Last Emperor’ spoke to Epic MMA:
“I have nothing to prove, but I want to fight the best of the best and would like to fight UFC champion Fabricio Werdum,”
“Maybe it will happen in the future.”
The MMA legend continued:
“I would like to have a rematch against Fabricio Werdum,” he said, again.
“I’ve told the UFC many times that I want and would accept that fight.”
When asked if he would be open to fighting under the UFC banner at UFC 200 on July 9th, Emelianenko said with a laugh:
“If we can make the right arrangements I would definitely fight in the UFC”
While there have been talks of Emelianenko fighting in the UFC since the time when Brock Lesnar was champion, the UFC and Emelianenko have never been able to come to an agreement.
Do you think we will ever see Emelianenko inside the Octagon?
