Fabio Maldonado admits to PED usage in UFC, plans to for Fedor Emelianenko fight

Recently news broke that MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko would be returning to MMA in front of his native Russian fans when he fights UFC veteran Fabio Maldonado under the Fight Nights Global banner in June. Ahead of the fight, a shocking detail emerged that there would be no PED testing ahead of, or the night of, the fight. Following that announcement, Maldonado admitted to BloodyElbow that he had been using PEDs during the last stretch of his UFC career, and that he plans to do so in his upcoming fight against Emelianenko.

According to a report from Combate, former PRIDE champion Fedor Emelianenko will return to the cage this summer to battle former UFC veteran Fabio Maldonado at a “Fight Nights” event in Russia on June 17. “Fight Nights” promoter Kamil Gadzhiev revealed that Maldonado is one of three possible opponents for Fedor’s return to Russia on June 17. He would not even confirm the date, and instead informed the media to watch the press conference on Tuesday (as per BloodyElbow).

Back in 2009, MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko made his Strikeforce debut as he knocked out Brett Rogers in the 2nd round of their headlining fight. In just his second Strikeforce fight, Emelianenko was submitted by Jiu-Jitsu phenom Fabricio Werdum. To this day, the loss remains the only submission loss on Emelianenko’s record. Now, following a successful return to MMA on New Years Eve, Emelianenko is looking to avenge his loss to Werdum, who is now the UFC heavyweight champion.
