UFC president Dana White says the UFC is targeting April for the rematch between UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou. White confirmed several months ago that Ngannou was next in line to fight Miocic for the belt, and a March date was originally targeted for the rematch between the two heavyweights. However, the date has been pushed back once again after the promotion recently announced Jan Blachowicz vs. Israel Adesanya are heading UFC 259 in March, and the UFC is now targeting April for Miocic vs. Ngannou. White confirmed as much in a recent Q&A with fans.

Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou will be running it back. Ever since Miocic defeated Daniel Cormier at UFC 242 in the trilogy, talk of the rematch between Miocic and Ngannou intensified. Now, according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the UFC is planning on having two pay-per-views in March with one being headlined by Miocic vs. Ngannou and the other being Israel Adesanya vs. Jan Blachowicz.

Ngannou, the No. 1 contender in the UFC heavyweight division, hasn’t fought since May when he knocked out Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the first round of their fight at UFC 249. Ngannou has won his last four straight fights by knockout and UFC president Dana White has said he’s next in line for a title shot. But with no fight currently booked, Ngannou wanted to stay busy, and he decided to set up this fight against Hoga for charity.

Following the event, UFC president Dana White said the plan is to match Miocic up against Ngannou in a rematch for his next fight. The two previously fought at UFC 220 in January 2018, with Miocic winning the first fight against Ngannou via unanimous decision.

UFC President Dana White says that streaking UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou contender could serve as an alternate for the upcoming title fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. Miocic and Cormier have fought twice previously. Cormier won the pair’s first bout, in 2018, by first-round knockout, claiming the heavyweight title for himself. Miocic then swiped the title back from Cormier in their 2019 rematch, surviving some early adversity to win via fourth-round TKO. The pair are scheduled to meet for a third time at UFC 252 on August 15.
