Frank Mir hopes to return to the Octagon in 2018, still wants Lesnar trilogy fight

In April of 2016, it was announced that Frank Mir had been notified of a potential USADA violation, and that he could be facing up to two years on the shelf as a result. In the face of this lengthy suspension, Mir seemed to be seriously considering retirement. In the months since this USADA violation was announced, however, he has changed his tune. In a recent interview with Australia’s Submission Radio, Mir explained that he’s itching to get back to the cage, ideally sometime in early 2018. And while he’ll be closing in on 40 by that point, he still believes he’ll be able to hang with the division’s best. The precedent is there, after all.

Back in March, Mark Hunt picked up yet another walk-off KO as he defeated Frank Mir in the first round of their ‘UFC FN: Sydney’ main event scrap. After the bout, news surfaced that Mir had failed a drug test that was taken after his loss to Hunt. Mir adamantly denied that he took any performance enhancing drugs, and revealed that if he were to be suspended for 2 years he would retire from MMA.

News broke late Friday evening that former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir had Ben informed of a potential doping violation by the US Anti-Doping Agency. The potential drug testing failure stems from Mir’s recent fight against Mark Hunt, which he lost via 1st round KO. The UFC released a statement through UFC.com which read: The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Frank Mir of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an in-competition sample collected the day of his fight on March 20, 2016 in Brisbane, Australia.

We didn’t get to hear a lot from former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir after falling to the heavy hands of Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 85, which took place in Brisbane, Australia over the weekend. Hunt delivered a thudding blow to Mir that sunk him to the canvas and simply walked away knowing the former champ was not in any safe condition to continue the fight.
