Edgar is 6-2 since dropping down from the lightweight division to 145 with his only losses coming against current undisputed UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Edgar and Aldo first met in the Octagon at UFC 156 in 2013 where Edgar lost a unanimous decision. “The Answer” then went on to pick up five wins in a row in the featherweight division and hit another bump in the road in a rematch against Aldo at UFC 200 in July of last year. Aldo and Edgar fought for the interim featherweight title where Aldo again picked up another unanimous decision win. In his last competition, Edgar took a unanimous decision win over Jeremy Stephens at UFC 205 in November.
Lamas is 4-3 in his last seven fights, hitting some ups and downs but only losing to the best competition in the featherweight division. Lamas lost a unanimous decision to Jose Aldo in 2014, lost by TKO to Chad Mendes in 2015 and a lost a unanimous decision to current interim UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway in June of last year. Lamas last fought in November, winning a second round submission victory over Charles Oliveira and will look to get set up for another shot at the featherweight title with a win over Edgar.
Although the UFC has yet make any announcement for Frankie Edgar vs. Ricardo Lamas, it surely seems like the right matchup for both fighters. Who do you see getting their hand raised? Sound off in the comment section!
