On Friday morning, at the weigh-ins for his UFC on ESPN 15 main event showdown with Pedro Munhoz, Frankie Edgar hit the bantamweight limit for the first time. Edgar began his UFC career in the lightweight division, where he ultimately became the champion by defeating BJ Penn. Several years later, he dropped down to the featherweight division, where he contended for the title multiple times against Jose Aldo and Max Holloway.

News of this rescheduled matchup, which is expected to occur at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, was first reported by Brazilian publication Combate.

The No. 7 ranked bantamweight was expected to face Edgar on the UFC’s Fight Island on July 15. Unfortunately, he tested positive for the virus, leaving “The Answer” without an opponent for the upcoming event.

Aljamain Sterling has called out Dominick Cruz for blocking him on social media, and also responded to a callout by Frankie Edgar. “The Funk Master” has been inching towards a title shot but the former champion, Cruz, has beaten him to it. The current bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo was scheduled to defend his title against Jose Aldo next. However, his Brazilian opponent had to pull out of their scheduled matchup due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar says he’s interested in fighting Aljamain Sterling in his bantamweight debut. Edgar was supposed to fight Cory Sandhagen back at UFC Raleigh in January in what was supposed to be his first fight at 135lbs. But Edgar was pulled from the card and instead fought Chan Sung Jung at UFC Busan at featherweight, where he suffered a nasty KO loss to The Korean Zombie. The fight with Sandhagen was subsequently wiped out as a result and Edgar has still yet to make his official bantamweight debut.

He was then slated to fight Dominick Cruz on the fight card, but the status of UFC 250 is unknown at this time.

Edgar, who many consider to be a legend in the world of mixed martial arts, is coming off the back of consecutive losses at the hands of Max Holloway and Chan Sung Jung AKA The Korean Zombie. The expectation was that he would be moving down to bantamweight to face Cory Sandhagen, but the injuries he sustained against The Korean Zombie ensured that wasn’t going to happen.
