Former jiu-jitsu champion Gabi Garcia set to make MMA return on April 25th

By Josh Evanoff - March 13, 2024

Former RIZIN fighter Gabi Garcia is going to be returning to the world of MMA in April.

The former jiu-jitsu champion was one of the biggest names in women’s MMA for a few years in the 2010s. That’s also literally speaking, as Gabi Garcia is 6’2″ and weighed in well over 200 pounds in her fighting career. Throughout most of her career, she competed in RIZIN, scoring five wins in the promotion from 2015 to 2018.

However, after a stoppage victory over Barbara Nepomuceno at RIZIN 14, Gabi Garcia went on hiatus. Over the next few years, the Brazilian competed in several jiu-jitsu tournaments, which comes as no surprise. Prior to her MMA career, Garcia was a multiple-time ADCC champion.

Five years removed from her last fight, Gabi Garcia is set to return to the world of MMA. The bout itself was announced on Instagram by both the Brazilian, as well as Centurion MMA. On April 25th, Garcia will return to the cage to face a former foe, Barbara Nepomuceno. Their first bout back in 2018 saw the Brazilian notch a submission win in under three minutes.

Nepomuceno hasn’t competed since that stoppage loss to Garcia in 2018, making the fight booking a bit odd. Still, both Brazilians will look to earn a big win this spring.
