Michael Bisping: GSP is in 'position of power' over UFC, doesn't have to fight Whittaker

Tom Taylor - August 16, 2017

On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre explained that, if he beats Michael Bisping to capture UFC middleweight gold at UFC 217 this November, he’ll then have to defend the title – probably against interim champion Robert Whittaker. “I have to defend my title. It’s written in my contract that I have to defend my title if I win, and also I think it’s [Robert] Whittaker that’s going to be the other guy that has the fight. When I beat Bisping, he’s going to be the guy that I’m going to fight next.

Georges St-Pierre: I'm not scared of Tyron Woodley

Russell Ess - August 14, 2017

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has gone on the record to state that he feels that former champion Georges St-Pierre does not want to fight him in the Octagon. Woodley believes that St-Pierre does not want to risk getting a concussion against him and would rather take on opponents less likely to do such a thing to him in competition. Speaking on The MMA Hour on Monday, St-Pierre commented on what the current UFC welterweight champion has been saying and also gave him praise for his last performance.

Georges St-Pierre explains what happens next if he beats Michael Bisping

Tom Taylor - August 14, 2017

The next crack at Michael Bisping’s UFC middleweight title will not go to interim champion Robert Whittaker. It will not go to top contender Yoel Romero, or former champion Luke Rockhold. It will not go to Chris Weidman or Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Instead, it will go to Georges St-Pierre, a welterweight great who has not fought since 2013 and has never competed at middleweight. Needless to say, news of St-Pierre’s title shot was no exactly well-received. Luckily, St-Pierre revealed on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour that, if he beats Bisping, he is contractually obligated to defend the middleweight title, rather than chase a money fight in another division. This means that order should return to the middleweight division soon after this Bisping vs. St-Pierre fight.

BREAKING | Georges St-Pierre signs contract for bout with Michael Bisping

Tom Taylor - August 9, 2017

This afternoon, former UFC welterweight champion and bona fide MMA legend Georges St. Pierre picked up a pen, scrawled his signature on an agreement for a UFC 217 middleweight title fight with champ Michael Bisping, and generated a collective sigh of disappointment from the many established contenders in the UFC middleweight division. Yes, whether middleweight stars like Robert Whittaker, Yoel Romero, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman like it not, this much-discussed, and even more frequently derided middleweight title fight between Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre would seem to be a go.

Tyron Woodley says Georges St-Pierre should be honest on reason for his comeback

Russell Ess - August 7, 2017

After nearly four years away from competition, Georges St-Pierre is expected to return to the Octagon in November. Not only will St-Pierre be returning to fight in the UFC, the former welterweight champion is looking to jump up a weight class and take on UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. If victorious against Bisping, St-Pierre will be among the few who have won UFC titles in two divisions, which include Randy Couture, BJ Penn, and Conor McGregor. While legacy and records are one thing, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley says GSP has another motive for his comeback and should just be open about it with his fans.

Michael Bisping confirms Georges St-Pierre fight

bjpenndotcom - August 1, 2017

The ongoing saga of a potential Georges St-Pierre vs. Michael Bisping superfight has continued to result in a delay. Despite Robert Whittaker recently winning the interim middleweight championship, a Bisping vs. St-Pierre fight has once again picked up steam. Prior to the Robert Whittaker vs. Yoel Romero interim middleweight title fight, Georges St-Pierre texted both Michael Bisping and Dana White requesting a fight with Bisping in November. Following the fight, Bisping was guaranteed the winner, however a potentially lengthy sit has forced interim champion Robert Whittaker to the wayside for the next several months, bringing back the possibility of a Bisping vs. GSP fight once again.

Tyron Woodley on GSP: if he does not fight me, by default I will be the best welterweight of all-time

Tom Taylor - July 31, 2017

Former UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre, who has not fought since late 2013, is widely regarded as the greatest welterweight of all time. Current UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley, who has now defended the title three times, is keen to usurp St-Pierre’s rep as the welterweight GOAT. If Woodley could beat St-Pierre, of course, he’d have a much easier time claiming to be the best. Unfortunately, St-Pierre doesn’t seem interested in accepting a fight with Woodley, and is instead keen on fighting UFC middleweight Michael Bisping. Woodley thinks this is because St-Pierre is avoiding him – which should make him the welterweight GOAT by default.

Russell Ess - July 25, 2017

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is set to defend his title this weekend at UFC 214 against Demian Maia. Maia has proved to be a top welterweight contender after dropping down from the middleweight division and is on a seven-fight winning streak dating back to 2014 and will get his second chance at getting UFC gold. Woodley is concentrating on his opponent but was asked on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour about former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and his long awaited return to the Octagon. Initially, St-Pierre was scheduled to face Michael Bisping for the middleweight title. However, a delay in St-Pierre’s schedule dealing with an eye injury scrapped the middleweight title matchup and UFC President Dana White insisted that “Rush” will fight for the welterweight title when he is ready to compete again.
