ONE FC champion Ben Askren is widely believed to be one of the best fighters not currently signed to the UFC. With a 15-0 professional record that has seen Askren not only claim the ONE championship, but also win the Bellator welterweight championship. As if that weren’t enough, Askren defended his ONE FC championship once, and also defended his Bellator championship belt 4 times. Despite that, the accomplished wrestler has never competed under the UFC banner, which has brought him quite a bit of criticism when fans discuss the top welterweights in MMA.

Georges St-Pierre may be in for the biggest fight of his life and it won’t even be close to taking place in the Octagon. On Monday, the former UFC welterweight kingpin announced on The MMA Hour that he was a free agent after his legal team terminated his contract with the UFC. Later that day, the UFC released a statement saying that St-Pierre was in fact still under contract with them.

While St-Pierre hasn’t fought since his controversial 2013 split decision win over Johny Hendricks, reports of St-Pierre returning to the Octagon have continued to surface over the years. Recently, it appeared as though St-Pierre was closer than ever before to returning, with reports of the former champ returning for a superfight with Anderson Silva igniting after Silva’s son teased the fight on social media several times. In addition, St-Pierre himself went as far as to state in an interview that news regarding his return would be announced in the coming weeks.

Recently, news has surfaced that the new WME-IMG owners of the UFC have been cleaning house, and plan to fire between 60 and 80 UFC employees in a major shakeup. Several key UFC executives were let go, including Chief Global Brand Officer & Head of International Business Development in Vegas, Garry Cook, Chief Content Officer Marshall Zelaznik, UFC Executive VP & GM of UFC Asia Ken Berger, and UFC Executive VP & GM of Canada, Tom Wright to name just a few of the nearly 15% of the worldwide employees let go by the WME-IMG owners. In addition, approximately 80% of the UFC’s Canadian Office was let go.
