For many years, there was no bigger fight in MMA than a super fight between former middleweight champion Anderson Silva and former welterweight king Georges St-Pierre. The fight was MMA’s holy grail; it’s Mayweather vs. Pacquiao – but it never happened. Today, when Silva is neck deep in a four-fight losing streak, and GSP is closing in on three years of retirement, this once unrivalled super fight has lost a bit of juice. That, however, doesn’t mean we don’t still want to see it.

Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre spoke with Canadian Sports Outlet “RDS” two days ago and stated that he would be making a “big announcement” next week. Rumors are now swirling that GSP’s big announcement could be a super-fight with former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson “The Spider” Silva, which would headline the UFC 206 pay-per-view event set for December 10 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre has not competed inside the octagon since his November of 2013 split-decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in Las Vegas. The Canadian mixed martial arts legend, St-Pierre, recently spoke with Quebec sports media outlet “RDS” where he claimed that a big announcement is coming next week.

While former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre and the UFC are currently still in negotiations regarding St-Pierre’s potential return to the Octagon, news emerged this week that indicates St-Pierre is one step closer to returning to the Octagon. According to MMAWeekly, ‘Rush’ has entered the USADA testing pool and has already been tested. This news comes after it was reported last month that St-Pierre had began the ‘USADA process’ in order to return to the UFC. At that point, St-Pierre had just begun the process, whereas now he has reportedly been tested 4 times according to USADA’s website.

A respected source within the MMA world squashed rumors that have been circulating of a potential superfight between former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre and Conor McGregor. Ariel Helwani tweeted that the fight was “off the table” in response to a question regarding the match-up, which had been rumored to take place at UFC 205 in New York City.

While the former welterweight kingpin has yet to formally announce his return to the UFC, ‘Rush’ stated in a recent interview that he is mentally ready to return. In addition, St-Pierre went as far as to state that he would like to fight #3 ranked welterweight Demian Maia, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, or longtime rival Nick Diaz, who is coming off an 18-month suspension, and doesn’t have a fight set in the Octagon.

After Tyron Woodley defeated Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 to claim the UFC welterweight championship, he immediately called for a fight with St-Pierre, who seemed extremely willing to step back in the Octagon.
