Greg Hardy will be making his promotional debut at UFC Brooklyn on Saturday, when he takes on Allen Crowder in the ESPN+ co-main event. The placement of Hardy on the card has drawn plenty of criticism from plenty of people not only cause of Hardy’s past but also because Rachael Ostovich is on the card as well. Hardy, well-known as former defensive end superstar in the NFL, had his career cut short due to domestic violence allegations which will be the dark cloud that follows him every single day throughout his career.

According to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, Dana White has said that the UFC is close to finalizing a fight between Hardy and Allen Crowder (9-3) for their first ESPN+ card that is scheduled to take place on January 19 in Brooklyn, New York.

Now, with Hardy 3-0 as a professional, his next step will be once again fighting for a smaller promotion outside of the UFC. Greg Hardy is still undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, with a record of 3-0. While many MMA fans on Saturday night were watching Bellator 206’s stacked card, Hardy was fighting on the regional scene at XFN 352. Hardy was taking on Rasheem Jones in the main event. Hardy came out and starched Jones before finishing him with the ground and pound just 53 seconds into the fight.

In Schaub’s eyes, the efforts the UFC has put forth to promote Hardy would have been far better applied to World Series of Fighting veteran Nick Newell. “I just don’t understand. I don’t understand why he’s in that bulls**t Contender Series,” Schaub said of Hardy on his Below the Belt podcast (transcript via MMA Fighting). “They’re just doing it for views. Following his successful pro debut on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, controversial former NFL player Greg Hardy was awarded a developmental deal with the UFC —meaning he’ll have to take a few fights outside the Octagon before he debuts in the Octagon proper. The second of these fights occurred last night, on the season finale of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, where he knocked out Tebaris Gordon in just 17 seconds. Despite this blitzkrieg win, the former NFLer still wasn’t awarded an official UFC contract.

In the eight weeks of action that we got this Summer, we saw 24 contracts handed out with 33 of the 40 fights ending via finish. There wasn’t a single week that didn’t have at least two fights resulting in a finish. There was actually only one where that was the case, actually.

Hardy’s involvement with the UFC, of course, is deeply controversial, given his ugly history of domestic violence. In the face of continued criticisms, UFC President Dana White wants to remind the world that Greg Hardy isn’t yet in the UFC, and that he’ll have to win at least one more Contender Series bout before he gets an official UFC contract.

Greg Hardy’s first-round knockout of Austen Lane, which occurred on this week’s episode of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, earned him a “development” contract with the UFC. Speaking to TMZ this week, Dana White himself shed some light on what this development deal will actually look like, and when we might see Hardy again. Apparently, White is hoping to have Hardy compete on another episode of the Contender Series in July. In other words, we can expect the UFC to build Hardy up via other avenues before he debuts in the Octagon proper.
