UFC superstar Conor McGregor called out Gregor Gillespie over his “best fisherman in MMA remarks,” and then Dustin Poirier also chimed in. Gillespie finished Diego Ferreira in the second round of a back-and-forth fight at UFC Vegas 26 that saw “The Gift” return to the win column for the first time in over two years. With Ferreira coming in overweight, Gillespie was already at a disadvantage right from the start of this fight. But he was able to weather the early storm then take the fight into deep waters and finish Ferreira late in the second round for another fantastic performance.

Diego Ferreira wanted a quick turnaround after his loss to Beneil Dariush in February and he got his wish. On the main card of UFC Vegas 26, Ferreira took a short notice fight against Gregor Gillepsie on a month’s notice. Although it is a tough matchup, Ferreira says it was an immediate yes to accept the fight.

An intriguing lightweight bout between Gregor Gillespie and Diego Ferreira has been added to the UFC Fight Night card on May 8. Gillespie was supposed to fight Brad Riddell last month, but the fight was scrapped on fight day when Riddell was pulled from the card due to COVID-19 protocols. Instead of re-booking that fight, the UFC matchmakers have gone and given Gillespie a new matchup against Ferreira in what is a battle between top-15 ranked lightweight. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report the matchup, which will take place on the May 8 card headlined by TJ Dillashaw and Cory Sandhagen. The card will likely take place in Las Vegas.

Tonight during the stacked main event of UFC 244, Kevin Lee collided with Gregor Gillespie in a lightweight bout. Kevin ‘The Motown Phenom’ had moved back to the lightweight division after losing to UFC legend, Rafael Dos Anjos in a welterweight matchup in May 2019. His last fight prior was against Al Iaquinta. Their first face-off was during Lee’s UFC debut five years ago. Iaquinta defeated his opponent by unanimous decision at UFC 169. Much to the dismay of ‘The Motown Phenom’, their rematch in 2018 offered the same outcome: a unanimous decision loss.

MMA Junkie was first to report that Kevin Lee vs Gregor Gillespie is being discussed for UFC 244 on November 2nd in New York. This will mark the return to the lightweight division for Kevin Lee who most recently suffered a loss to Rafael dos Anjos in his welterweight debut fight. After the one fight at 170 pounds, Lee announced earlier in September that he would be moving back to the lightweight division, and engaged in a back-and-forth with rising contender Islam Makhachev.

Gilbert Burns is looking to get into the top-15 of the UFC lightweight division, but that has been easier said than done. The Brazilian is riding a two-fight winning streak with wins over Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Mike Davis. However, the 32-year-old says many ranked fighters have simply turned down the contract to fight him. Burns wanted to fight Alexander Hernandez, Gregor Gillespie, and Charles Oliveira — among others. Unfortunately, he’s had no luck finding a willing dance partner.

Unfortunately, it’s not all good news for the surging lightweight contender. At some point during the night, a slimy fan slithered into the Barclay’s Center and stole Gregor Gillespie and his coach’s fight bags. In doing so, they made off with not only his gear, but his wallet.

A lightweight fight between rising stars Gregor Gillespie and Vinc Pichel served as the co-headliner of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 131 event in Utica, New York. Round one begins and Pichel throws a double jab to keep Gregor at bay early. Gillespie presses forward and lands a punch. He shoots in and scores an early takedown. Gregor moves to half guard and then quickly passes over to side control. Gillespie begins to land some left hands. That causes Vinc to scramble and he gives up his neck. Gregor looks to lock in a front choke but it is not there. Pichel is back to his feet but Gregor swarms on him with punches. Gillespie drops down for a single leg takedown and gets it. Pichel scrambles back to his feet but once again Gregor is all over him with punches and then proceeds to score another single leg takedown. Gregor passes to half guard and fires off a right hand. Pichel is defending well here. Gillespie is able to move to full mount but Vinc immediately scrambles and is able to get back to his feet. The fighters briefly exchange punches before Gregor scores yet another takedown. Gillespie rolls for a choke. He locks up an anaconda hold but the horn sounds before he can score the finish.
