Henry Cejudo’s bold declaration ahead of UFC 197
Throughout the history of MMA we’ve seen many incredible fighters. From fighters like Igor Vovchanchyn and Fedor Emelianenko to Anderson Silva and Jon Jones, there have been many phenomenal fighters.
Outside of MMA, we’ve seen standout combat athletes such as Eddie Bravo, Jordan Burroughs, and more.
Now, Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo believes that he can join the ranks of some of the greatest combat sports athletes to walk the Earth with a win over Demetrious Johnson at UFC 197 on April 23rd.
He spoke to MMAJunkie:
“Until somebody breaks my record of becoming a gold medalist and winning a UFC belt, I would consider – I would hope the people would see me as probably the greatest combat athlete to compete in the sport because of the accolades I have,” Cejudo told MMAjunkie. “(UFC champion) Holly Holm is there, a boxing world champion and now an MMA world champion, but I feel the purity of the Olympics and the UFC belt, it would just – it’s hard to top.”
