Over the weekend, in the co-main event of UFC Sacramento, former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber made a triumphant return to the cage, stopping Ricky Simon in the first round of a bantamweight fight. Having defeated Simon, Faber is once again back in the bantamweight title conversation. He could even be the next man in line for the reigning champion Henry Cejudo. When Faber first began teasing his return to action, however, he was interested in a fight with his former student TJ Dillashaw.

This Saturday, in the co-main event of UFC Sacramento, Urijah Faber returns to the cage opposite rising bantamweight contender Ricky Simon. If he wins, he’ll take a big step in the direction of a bantamweight title fight with new champion Henry Cejudo, who called him out after claiming the title with a TKO of Marlon Moraes at UFC 238. “Absolutely, I’ll never rule that out,” Faber said of Cejudo in an interview with MMA Fighting. “Henry just called me out, the current champ at two different weight classes and an Olympic gold medalist. So that’s an enticing fight for me because of the matchup, and you know, the reason I’m in the sport. And the fact he threw me in the mix and we talked about it 10 years ago prior, which is kind of cool how that all played out. So that’s always in the back of my head, for sure.”

UFC president Dana White wouldn’t be surprised if “champ-champ” Henry Cejudo defends his bantamweight gold first. Cejudo captured the bantamweight gold earlier this month. “Triple C” earned a third-round TKO victory over Marlon Moraes in the main event of UFC 238. Cejudo was already the flyweight champion going into the bout. While White has said that the men’s 125-pound division will stick around, Cejudo’s surgery could leave both the flyweight and bantamweight divisions at a standstill.

Joseph Benavidez already has a victory over Henry Cejudo and he feels lightning can strike twice. Benavidez and Cejudo shared the cage back in Dec. 2016. Cejudo was coming off a first-round TKO loss to Demetrious Johnson. In the first round against Benavidez, Cejudo was deducted a point for low blows. The bout went the distance and Benavidez was awarded the split decision victory. Since that bout, Cejudo has gone 5-0 and he is the UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion.

After a solid first round, the Brazilian started to fade and Cejudo TKO’d him in the third. After the fight, the Olympic gold medalist mentioned how he wanted to defend both titles. However, that won’t happen this year as Henry Cejudo is out until early 2020 due to shoulder surgery. With that, Petr Yan wants an interim title fight against Aljamain Sterling, who both won their respective bouts at UFC 238.

Henry Cejudo, now the UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion, could be out of action for quite some time. After a busy start to 2019, he’s gone under the knife to repair a torn subscapularis muscle, and his recovery could keep him out of action for the remainder of the year. This according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. Cejudo sustained this shoulder injury in his UFC 238 bantamweight title fight with Marlon Moraes. After a rough opening round, Cejudo gradually took control of the fight, and ultimately finished his dangerous Brazilian foe in the third round, winning the vacant bantamweight belt.
