UFC welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry will fight former champion Sean Strickland one day.

‘The Future’ is currently slated to return to the octagon this Saturday night at UFC 298. The Irishman has been out of action since a dominant decision victory over Neil Magny in August. That win was the biggest of Ian Machado Garry’s to date and saw him move to 14-0.

On Saturday, Ian Machado Garry will return to the cage to face his rival, Geoff Neal. While the two welterweights haven’t competed yet, they’ve developed quite the rivalry. They were scheduled to fight last year, and the Irishman mocked ‘Handz of Steel’ by creating a t-shirt with his mugshot from a 2021 DUI arrest on it.

However, at UFC 298 media day earlier this week, Ian Machado Garry was more focused on Sean Strickland. ‘Tarzan’ famously ripped into the Irishman, as well as his wife, late last year. In a series of social media posts, the former champion labeled Garry’s wife a “pedophile” due to the age gap between herself and the fighter. Since then, the two fighters have gone back and forth several times.

As a result, at UFC 298 media day, Ian Machado Garry ripped into Sean Strickland. During the scrum, the rising prospect stated that he was going to fight the former champion because of the remarks. In the Irishman’s eyes, talking about his wife in that manner is absolutely off-limits.

“Listen, we can shoot shots at each other all day long. Me and another bloke. But the second he mentions, my wife, she was called a pedophile by Sean Strickland.” Ian Garry stated at UFC 298 media day earlier this week. “No woman ever deserves to be called that right? That’s the truth. My son, the people that follow Sean Strickland, commented on my photos at the very start of this hate. Saying ‘Is the kid even his?’, I shouldn’t have to hear that.”

He continued, “Now those two things, they emotionally get me, and I’ll get mine back. I’ll thump the f*cking mouth off of Sean Strickland one day, and there will be nothing he can do about it. I’ll talk to him, I’ll dance in his face, I’ll do whatever I want. The truth is, when we get locked into that cage one day, he’s never going to be able to deal with me… For me, when you attack people in my circle when they don’t deserve it, that’s out of line.”

“Look, Sean Strickland is not the f*cking voice we should all be listening to.” Ian Garry concluded. “He’s deeply, deeply indebted with trauma and he should just be silent and trying to deal with his personal issues himself. That’s mainly where it all came from.”
