UFC welterweight contender Jack Della Maddalena plans to “shock the world” by finishing Shavkat Rakhmonov

UFC welterweight Jack Della Maddalena has reiterated his desire to fight and defeat Shavkat Rakhmonov later this year.

Earlier this month, Jack Della Maddalena secured the biggest win of his career. He beat and finished Gilbert Burns, doing so with a broken arm, to establish himself as a top contender in the welterweight division. In the immediate aftermath, he made it known that he’d be interested in taking on the seemingly unstoppable Shavkat Rakhmonov.

In the eyes of many, that was an incredibly bold decision to make, given how good the undefeated Rakhmonov has looked in his UFC career thus far.

Now, in a recent interview, Della Maddalena has doubled down on that.

Della Maddalena calls his shot

“I think I finish him,” Della Maddalena told ESPN. “I think I go in there and shock the world. A lot of people count me out, but I reckon I could spark him and then get the title shot.”

Rakhmonov had warned Jack that he’d face the same fate as his previous opponents, which the Australian sensation responded to.

“Great, he’s perfect,” Della Maddalena said of Rakhmonov’s response. “I feel like he’s like a James Bond villain, so I’m happy to be James Bond, and I thought that was the perfect response from him. I don’t know how this thing works, but I think it’s on.”

“I’ve seen that he wanted to fight early August,” Della Maddalena said. “He’s carrying an injury, I’m carrying an injury, I reckon I’m good to go early August, so August sometime. Mid-August, maybe down this side of the world. Who knows?”
