However, protests that grew into violence between members of opposing sides broke out causing Yiannopoulos’ speech to be canceled.
Jake Shields Recounts Run-In With Conor McGregor: I Told Him I’d Slap the Sh*t out of Him
Tom Taylor - November 2, 2016
Earlier this year, in the main event of UFC 202, Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz engaged in an unforgettable, five-round war. In the end, McGregor would win this encounter with a majority decision, avenging a previous submission loss to Diaz in the process. Given McGregor and Diaz’s propensities for trash talk and bravado, it should come as no surprise that they had several heated exchanges in the buildup to their legendary second scrap. Several of these brushes got so heated that members of both fighter’s teams got involved.

Jake Shields: "Conor just didn't have the heart Nate had. Diaz let him beat him up in round 1"
Chris Taylor - March 12, 2016
Although Nate Diaz proved victorious in the main event of UFC 196, the ‘Stockton Slugger’ still suffered quite a bit of damage in his epic second-round submission victory over featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Diaz’s ‘Scrap Pack’ teammate Jake Shields admitted to Sherdog Radio that Nate got a little more busted up than the team had hoped for in the first round of the UFC 196 main event fight. But Shields insists that he was never worried about Nate and that getting ‘beat up’ was all part of the game plan. His words:
Teammate Jake Shields bet on Nate Diaz to defeat Conor McGregor at UFC 196
Chris Taylor - March 12, 2016
Former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields was quite confident that his teammate Nate Diaz would be able to defeat Conor McGregor on short-notice at this past weekend’s UFC 196 event in Las Vegas. The former UFC welterweight title challenger, who now fights for the World Series of Fighting promotion, told Sherdog Radio that he bet and won money on his long time teammate Nate Diaz on March 5: “I absolutely thought Nate was going to win. I went and bet money on him. There were things I was worried about. Like the fact that Nate was in Cabo right before the fight. Him and [Gilbert Melendez] were out in Cabo, drinking, eating, you know, having fun and partying, not training, so that was in the back of my head. Nate’s a cardio freak, so I was like, ‘Well hopefully that doesn’t hurt him.’ I definitely thought Nate was gonna win. I think Conor’s a great fighter, but I think he got a little overhyped.”
