Jessica Aguilar released from UFC, found out through USADA
The 28-fight veteran in Mexico’s Jessica Aguilar (20-8) is a former World Series of Fighting champion as well as at one time the arguably No. 1 strawweight in the world.
Her UFC run did not at all go according to plan as it had a little bit of everything… Except for great amounts of success. Now it has unfortunately come to an end.
In her five fights in the UFC, Aguilar went 1-4 after coming in riding a stellar 10-fight winning streak that included wins over the likes of former Invicta FC and UFC champion, Carla Esparza, Kalindra Faria, and the legendary Megumi Fujii (twice).
Rightfully debuting against a top contender in Claudia Gadelha at UFC 190 in August 2015, Aguilar would have her streak snapped in a unanimous decision loss. A torn ACL would follow for the former champion thus keeping her out of action until May 2017.
Along the way, Aguilar would score a solid win over Jodie Esquibel and fall victim to the ridiculousness of the New York State Athletic Commission where she was pulled from a fight due to having chapped lips. Yes, that really did happen.
Now following two incredibly tough losses to the likes of the rising top Chinese contender, Weili Zhang, and most recently Brazilian prospect, Marina Rodriguez, Aguilar’s contract with the promotion has come to an end. But she didn’t find out that she wouldn’t be re-signed through the UFC…
”I haven’t received any communications from the UFC,” Aguilar told MMA Fighting. “However my last fight against Marina Rodriguez was the last on my contract. I did receive an e-mail last night from USADA stating that I was being removed from the testing pool which I assume means the UFC has decided not to offer me a new contract. This business tough, but well worth it if you love fighting as much as I do. I have dedicated over 13 years of my life to MMA and consider myself a pioneer of WMMA.”
For the now 36-year old Jessica Aguilar, she still hopes to one day get a chance to fight in Mexico.
