Joe Rogan feels that Stipe Miocic deserves rematch with Daniel Cormier

The next shot at Daniel Cormier’s UFC heavyweight title will go to former champion Brock Lesnar. In the eyes of many fans, however, this is the wrong choice. Instead, these fans feel that the next shot at Cormier should go to the very many he won the title from: Stipe Miocic.

Miocic, after all, owns the record for most consecutive title defenses by a UFC heavyweight champion, and until his loss to Cormier — a first-round knockout — looked more or less unstoppable. Furthermore, many dominant champions are given immediate rematches when they lose their belts — such as Ronda Rousey and Joanna Jedrzejczyk, to name a few.

In the opinion of UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, it’s only fair that Miocic gets this chance. Rogan explained why Miocic deserves the opportunity on the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show this week.

“He should [get a rematch],” Rogan told Bryan Callen on the show (transcribed by Jed Meshew for MMA Fighting). “People are thinking, the guy wins more UFC title defenses than anybody in the history of the sport and becomes the most accomplished heavyweight of all time. Think about what he’s done. Think about the fact that he knocks out Fabricio Werdum to win the title, he knocks out Alistair Overeem to defend the title, he knocks out Junior dos Santos, beats Francis [Ngannou] when everybody is terrified of Francis. He became the most accomplished heavyweight of all time. Then he gets knocked out by a crazy, perfect punch by Daniel Cormier in a perfect strategy.”

While Joe Rogan feels that Stipe Miocic deserves a rematch with Daniel Cormier, he understands that the shot will more than likely to go to Brock Lesnar. The catch, of course, being that Lesnar has to pass a battery of drug tests first.

“The fight is Brock, but the question is, can Brock pass tests?” Rogan queried.
