UFC 222 Results: John Dodson defeats Pedro Munhoz

A bantamweight tilt between John Dodson and Pedro Munhoz took place during tonight’s UFC 22 prelims on FS1.

Round one begins and Dodson starts off quickly with a right hand. Pedro circles and then fires off a low kick. Dodson looks noticeably smaller than Munhoz. Dodson throws a combination but Pedro is able to block the punches. Munhoz with a kick to the body but Dodson catches it and then fires off a low kick. Munhoz misses with a head kick. Dodson rushes in with a combination. Pedro avoids the shots and then fires off a low kick. Dodson returns fire with a hook to the body. He lands a hard low kick and then a good jab behind it. Dodson catches another kick attempt from Munhoz and throws him to the ground. Pedro bounces right back up to his feet. He lands a nice low kick but Dodson counters nicely with a right hand. Munhoz chases after him but Dodson is able to catch him with a nice left hand. Pedro with a low kick. The horn sounds to end round one.

Round two begins and Dodson lands a left hand to start things off. Munhoz with a low kick and then a front kick to the body. Dodson is circling along the fence. He catches a kick from Pedro and counters with a nice punch. Munhoz with a ton of pressure but he just can’t find a home for any of his punches. Dodson lands a left. Munhoz presses forward and lands a nice combination. Dodson is bleeding from his nose now. He fires off another left hand. Pedro with a flurry. He lands a right hand and then another. Dodson is on his bicycle now. Munhoz with a head kick and then a nice right jab. He is gaining momentum here in round two. Munhoz with a kick that connects to the groin area of Dodson. The referee steps in and calls a stop to the action with just seconds remaining. Dodson recovers and we restart just to hear the horn sound to end round two.

Round three begins and Pedro lands a big right hand early. Munhoz with a ton of forward pressure now. He lands a left hook and then a kick to the body. Another low blow from Munhoz. Once again Dodson is given time to recover and then we restart. Dodson lands a nice left hand. Pedro with a hard low kick. Dodson is only throwing his left hand, he may have suffered an injury to his right hand. Dodson with a left hand and then another. Munhoz continues to chase after him but he’s having a hard time getting close to John. Dodson with a nice left hook. He circles out but Pedro is hot on his trail. Munhoz with a right hand that connects. Dodson with a left hand but Munhoz leaps in with a flying knee that partially connects. Pedro is using a ton of forward pressure now. He shoots in and gets Dodson to the floor. That was a big takedown for Pedro. Dodson is doing his best to wall-walk and get back to his feet. Munhoz won’t let him up. He begins working some knees. Dodson scrambles to his feet. Both fighters exchange leather until the horn sounds to end the fight.
