Breaking! Jon Jones set to return at March’s UFC 235 event in Las Vegas

UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones will apparently be making a quick turnaround and defending his title at March’s UFC 235 event in Las Vegas.

UFC President Dana White told TMZ Sports that a title fight between Jon Jones and Anthony Smith is in the works for March’s pay-per-view event.

According to the report, the fight is contingent on Jones’s application of licensure being approved by the NSAC.

Jon Jones was most recently seen in action last weekend in Los Angeles where he picked up a third-round knockout victory over Alexander Gustafsson to reclaim his light heavyweight title.

The 205-pound belt was up for grabs at UFC 232 after former “champ champ” Daniel Cormier was forced to vacate his title.

Prior to his second career victory over “The Mauler”, Jon Jones was coming off a third-round KO victory over “DC” which took place at UFC 214.

That fight was later overturned to a no-contest, this after Jon Jones was now infamously flagged for having trace amounts of turinabol in his system by USADA.

Meanwhile, Anthony Smith last competed at October’s UFC Fight Night event in Moncton, where he earned a third-round submission victory over former division title challenger Volkan Oezdemir.

Prior to his victory over “No Time”, “Lionheart” had picked up back-to-back first-round stoppage victories over former division champions Rashad Evans and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

UFC 235 takes place March 2 live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

In addition to Anthony Smith vs. Jon Jones, the fight card also features a key welterweight battle between former MMA Champions Robbie Lawler and Ben Askren.
