Daniel Cormier predicted Jon Jones left head kick in 2014
In 2014, prior to Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones’ first meeting inside the Octagon, the pair both appeared onstage together at a press conference for the ‘tickets on sale’ event prior to the fight. During the course of the press conference, Jones declared that he had been able to pick out some rather glaring tendencies in the game of Daniel Cormier.
He stated:
“I’ve been able to pick out some pretty, pretty, pretty good tendencies that I will exploit against him,” Jones said. “My camp is just pretty solid man, Greg Jackson is a very very smart trainer. I’ve got good people in my corner and life that’s gonna help me get through this amazing challenge. I can’t go over what his weaknesses are but we’ve found many tendencies in his game.”
Cormier then responded with:
“I’ve got tendencies,” Cormier replied. “And I know what he’s talking about because they’re glaring … Don’t think you’re gonna kick me in the head with your left leg. Do not think you’re gonna kick me with the left foot in the head.”
Jones then responded, saying:
No, he has many tendencies but thank you for bringing that to my attention. Yes, we noticed that.”
Cormier then scoffed at the thought that Jones picked up on a subtle tendency:
“Yeah of course you did because it’s fricking glaring!” Cormier said. “That is a weakness that I’m smart enough to understand when there is a weakness and I correct it.”
Three years later, in the main event of UFC 214, Jon Jones picked up a TKO win over Daniel Cormier via left head kick. With the kick beginning the sequence that ended the fight, and ultimately saw Jones finish Cormier via ground and pound in the third round to reclaim the UFC light heavyweight title.
