Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones 2 headlines UFC 200
July’s UFC 200 event in Las Vegas has a new main event!
Current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will rematch interim UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in the headlining bout of this summer’s blockbuster event.
The news was first reported during a telecast of “Good Morning America” on Wednesday morning.
“UFC 200 has been, uh, interesting to say the least, putting this thing together,” UFC president Dana White said on the show. “There’s been some crazy things that have gone on. Some ups and downs. Jon Jones just fought on Saturday night and won his fight against OSP. He’s been out for 15 months, and now he’s back, and he wants his light heavyweight UFC title back. So the main event will be Daniel Cormier versus Jon Jones.”
Jones and Cormier first met at UFC 182 in early 2015. Jon Jones won that fight via unanimous decision.
UFC 200 was originally supposed to be headlined by a welterweight rematch between current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and perennial lightweight contender Nate Diaz. However, “Mystic Mac” was pulled from the card after he refused to attend media obligations to promote the event.
