Jon Jones discusses how he felt watching Daniel Cormier cry at UFC 214

The feud between UFC light heavyweight fighters Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier resulted in arguably the biggest rivalry in the history of mixed martial arts.

That rivalry came to a head in the main event of last month’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, where Jones defeated his bitter rival (Cormier) via third-round knockout, thus reclaiming the UFC light heavyweight title which he had never really lost.

With all of the intense emotions leading up to their fight at UFC 214, it was clear that the winner of the Jones vs. Cormier rematch would be nothing short of elated, while the loser would be left heartbroken.

That is exactly how things played out, as Jones dropped to his knees with joy after having the UFC light heavyweight title wrapped around his waist by Dana White, while Cormier was seen in tears following the devastating setback.

During his recent appearance with On Sway In The Morning, Jon Jones discussed how he felt watching Daniel Cormier cry following their main event scrap at UFC 214.

“It was tough to watch him cry because he is such a good ambassador for our sport. I feel like with one-on-one sports like MMA and boxing, these are sports where you see grown men cry.”

Jones continued:

“Your success is all on your shoulders, where on a basketball team or football team you can blame it on the other people on the court or field with you… with MMA, it’s all you out there. It’s just such a personal thing when you’re defeated. Your legacy and everything. They’re not talking about your team, they are talking about you forever. The way men get attached to this sport, it’s just this beautiful thing. It is why he cried. It just shows how much this sh*t means to him.”

Jones was asked if he had attempted to tease Daniel Cormier in the backstage area or anything like that following his title earning victory at UFC 214.

“Nah. You know I wanted to, because man he talked soo much sh*t leading up to the fight. But I didn’t. I don’t have to now because the memes that are out there right now, well, people are doing that for me. But you know after the fight I was being honest when I said to the audience that Daniel Cormier is such a respectable man and a champion, and he really is. He is a good example.”
