Jon Jones jailed in a segregated cell ‘for his own protection’
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was arrested on Tuesday after turning himself into police in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Jones was recently issued five traffic citations by an Albuquerque police officer, which included one for drag racing. A judge ruled the drag racing ticket was a violation of his probation terms.
Jones spent Tuesday night in jail with officials telling TMZ that Jones was a “model inmate” since he has been in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County.
The officials also said that Jones has been jailed in a segregated cell separated from the general population because of his celebrity status. One official said, “It’s for his own protection.”
Reports indicate that Jones remains in jail and will be held in custody until his hearing with a judge, which is scheduled for Thursday, March 31st.
